A small hidden beach near Manuel Antonio and Quepos
“Worth coming mid-week”
Playa Escondida near Quepos offers a rare slice of Costa Rican coastline where development hasn't yet transformed the natural landscape—a genuine hidden gem where white sand meets thick jungle and the beach feels genuinely yours alone. This secluded stretch rewards visitors willing to venture off the main tourist circuit with dramatic rock formations, tide pools teeming with marine life, and a palpable sense of discovery that more accessible beaches have lost. The combination of pristine sand, crystalline waters, and nearby forest makes it ideal for those seeking both relaxation and a touch of adventure. Best visited during the dry season (December–April) when seas are calmer and beach access is easiest; arrive early to claim space and catch the light filtering through the canopy at sunrise.

Magical but requires planning — check the tide tables on the Quepos station website before going. The walk around the headland is slippery; wear water shoes. Absolutely worth it.

Found this on a tip from our boat captain. At low tide we scrambled around the headland and found ourselves completely alone in a perfect cove. Snorkelling was outstanding — sea turtles, parrotfish, an octopus.
