Best Time to Visit
Visit during the dry season (December–April) when mountain roads are more passable and wildlife viewing is optimal. The green season offers lush landscapes but requires high-clearance vehicles due to deteriorated road conditions.
What Changes Through The Year
Dry Season (Dec–Apr)
December–April brings optimal road conditions; a sedan may access the reserve, though 4x4 is still recommended. Wildlife viewing is excellent during this period.
Green Season (May–Nov)
May–November brings lush rainforest conditions but rugged mountain dirt roads deteriorate significantly. High-clearance 4x4 vehicles strongly recommended.
Getting There
From Quepos, drive east approximately 25 kilometers (1 hour) on paved roads. The final 30-minute stretch follows rugged mountain dirt roads to the reserve.
