Wild

Untamed, raw, elemental

Elemental is the right word. Not wild in the manufactured sense — no canopy tours, no visitor centres — but wild in the way that some beaches don't have names, some rivers don't have maps, and the jungle beyond certain points doesn't owe you anything. Costa Rica still has those places. These are the ones we found.

When to visit

The green season (May through November) intensifies the wild quality — waterfalls become torrential, jungle becomes impenetrable. The Pacific at peak swell season is something else entirely.
